When it got the BSOD on the 2.0 port it didn’t, thankfully, trash Stimon. Giving up on the Minolta, I tried an Epson scanner and it had the same trouble with the USB 2.0 ports (wouldn’t initialize) but it did work O.K. Restoring Stimon is quite a chore (disconnect and uninstall all USB devices, remove Stimon from Startup, boot to startup mode, Rename Stimon, boot to Safe Mode, delete Still Image Monitor, extract good copy of Stimon from Win98 setup, restore Stimon to startup menu, and re-install USB devices - instructions are from Microsoft.Com and Hewlett Packard). System is Halted’ BSOD that corrupted the still monitor file (Stimon.exe). Worst of all, while unknowingly using the scanner this way I had frequent ‘KEBUGCHECKEX. A subsequent call to Minolta confirmed that the scanner should initialize without having to launch the software. By starting up the software, the device would finally initialize.
WINDOWS 98 USB 2.0 INSTALL
When I went to install the Minolta DiMage IV scanner on the USB 2.0, the driver would install but the scanner wouldn’t initialize (the green light kept blinking). After the upgrade, In addition to the original 2 USB 1.1 ports, I added a CompUSA brand PCI card with 4 USB 2.0 ports.
WINDOWS 98 USB 2.0 UPGRADE
except for having to upgrade and reload my TBS Montego (not V II) sound driver and having trouble to get my modem to dial silently.

Other than the re-boot, things seemed to be O.K. (Bad idea, because the difference between 1.1 and 2.0 on an image download is nominal compared to the scanning time.) Anyway, during the 98 -> SE upgrade there was a system crash in the last 10 minutes after which I restarted and the upgrade seemed to pick up where it left off. I wanted to add a film scanner so I got the not so bright idea to upgrade from Windows 98 OEM to 98SE in order to get USB 2.0 support. So don't know if that has anything to do with the way things act up but I don't so.Got myself into a bit of a muddle with my Dimensions XRP 350 PII, 384mb RAM, Windows 98 system and I’m hoping for some suggestions. I took those bad file from this drive and and reburn the 98SE with the good cab files.
WINDOWS 98 USB 2.0 PC
I never got a CD when I had a local shop build the PC because my sister give me her 98SE.īut some of the cab files on it are bad. You think starting over things would work better but the drive that came with the PC and had windows install works the best.
WINDOWS 98 USB 2.0 SOFTWARE
Guess how and when updates, other software were install and in what order things were install. But have done clean install of windows and gotten all the updates etc but things have acted up on those drives. I have a 80 GB and a 120 GB drive that I have swaped out. Once I get all moved to the drive then I want to clone it onto another bigger drive I have and keep this drive here that has been good to me all these years as a backup too but one that has gotten full. Just need to Partition the 400 GB drive into more Partitions. Plus restore to another hard drive with it. It has software with the drive for backup but don't know if I should use it or get me True Images because I hear lots of great things about it.

I have never use a External Hard Drive before either. Sure be nice to have the added USB 2 speed because it is 40 faster.

Ok that sounds like a good card to try then.

SMBus VIA Technologies Inc VT8233 PCI to ISA Bridge Athlon XP I sure like to get faster speed then USB 1.1 but after seeing this thread I don't want to get something that will not work.Ĭhipset Model VT8366/A,VT8367 Apollo KT266/A,KT333 CPU to PCI Bridge USB 2.0 OR 1.1, Firewire, 7200 RPM, 16 MB Cache, PC or MAC. Opps a lot more of my own money and got me a Seagate 400 GB, Pushbutton Backup, External Hard Drive, I went to Best Buy and used the $50.00 gift card I got for xmas and some of my own money.
